METHODIST ORPHANAGES.
INCREASED FUNDS NEEDED. EFFECT OF UNEMPLOYMENT. Orphanage Sunday will be observed by the Methodist Church of New Zealand tomorrow, when retiring collections will be taken up on behalf of the five Methodist homes in the Dominion. Three of these homes are in Auckland, the Wesley and tho Epworth Homes at Mount Albert, and tho Buckland Road Home at Epsom, ono in Masterton, and one at Papanui, Christchurch. There are in tho threo Auckland homes about 120 children. The number of children who have lost both parents is comparatively small, but there is a large number of those who have lost one parent either by death or desertion, the remaining parent being unable to keep the home together while going out to earn a living. In the admission of children no denominational distinction is mad«, except that applicants belonging to other Churches having children's homes are expected first to apply to their own Church. If sych Churches have no room, the Methodist Church accepts all children in genuine need irrespeclive of reli g : ous distinctions so long as accomrnoda tion is available. Unemployment has involved the board of management in severe loss this year, resulting in an invasion into capit.il to meet the shortage in revenue. The board is, therefore, asking for an even more generous response to-morrow than was made last year.
The board is also requesting an in crease in annual subscriptions.
