INTERNATIONAL TOURISTS.

BRITAIN SEEKS SHARE.

GREAT ADVERTISING SCHEME. VISITORS GOING ELSEWHERE. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. (Received December 11. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. Dec 13. The British Government is sponsoring a scheme to form a large, new association to conduct advertising throughout the world to attract visitors to Britain. Captain D. Hacking. Parliamentary Secretary for Overseas Trade, says the scheme is being overwhelmingly supported. Tho aim is to form an association with an income of £30.000 a year for five year 3 France last year had 1,800.000 visitors who spent at least £75,000,000 to £100,000.000 in that country.

Britain had only received 412,000 tourists last year. The inaugural meeting in connection with the scheme is to be held at the Mansion House on December 1 The Daily Express says the Govemr j should supply the cost of the scheme. The over-taxed industries cannot shoulder the expense of meeting State-subsidised propaganda which draws thousands of Americans to France, Italy, Germany and Switzerland —anywhere in fact except to Britain.
