TRADE WITH RUSSIA.
QUESTION OF AGREEMENT. THE GOVERNMENT'S ATTITUDE. (Received December 15. 10.25 a.m.) United Service. LONDON, Dec. 13. There is a possibility of representatives of British trade going to Russia at no distant date to investigate trade between Great Britain and Russia. It is a curious situation. Tho Government definitely maintains its previous attitude that it will not consider the resumption of diplomatic relations except under the terms stated when they were broken off, which involvo Russia initiating the question of resumption, ind undertaking the cessation of propaganda in tho Empire, and giving other guarantees. On (he other hand, Government circles pointedly reiterate their anxiety not to place any obstacle in tho way of legitimate trade. It was more or less admitted that a trade agreement could be arranged not involving the resumption of diplomatic relations. It appears that a certain section of the Conservatives, comprising the younger and more progressive members, aro bringing prossuro on tho Government.
It is certain tho Government will not act officially, but should a trade agreement appear possible between private interests there will bo no objection. Undoubtedly certain members of the Cabinet aro sympathetic toward a trade agreement, especially those who have not become reconciled to the rupture of trade relations.
