MISHAP TO EXPRESS.

BULLOCK ON THE LINE.

ENGINE WHEELS LEAVE RAILS.

[BY TELEGRAPH. —PRES3 ASSOCIATION.] PALMERSTON NORTH, Friday.

While the south-bound Limited express was passing Porcwa, near Marlon, this morning, a bullock jumped on to the track in front of the engino and was killed instantly.

The front bogie wheels of the engine were thrown off the line, but fortunately the engine kept to the permanent way, though the train had been travelling at a speed of about 45 miles an hour. When the train stopped it was only 20 yards from the Porewa Bridge spanning a gully. It was a very close escape from a serious accident.

No carriages were derailed. As a result of the mishap the train was delayed for over an hour.
