BUTTER MARKET VERY FIRM.

The butter market is very firm, owing to a shortage of supplies from tho Continent. Danish is quoted at 2205; choicest salted New Zealand, 182s to 184s; exceptionally fine, 186s; Australian, 182s to 184s. Unsalted buttor is scarce. New Zealand is quoted at 194s to 1965, Australian, 182s to 186s. The cheese market is firm. New Zealand, white, is quoted at 98s, coloured, 100s; Australian, 96s to 98s. REPORTS FROM MERCHANTS. BUTTER INCREASE MAINTAINED. Cabled advices received by Auckland exporters yesterday confirm the advances in the price of butter recorded in the despatches from London under Wednesday's date. Amalgamated Dairies, Ltd., report having received tho following cablegram from their London manager, dated December 13:—Butter, finest, 184s to 186s, market very firm; Danish, 2165. Cheese, white, 97s to 98s; coloured, 99s to 100s; market slow. Norden and Co., Ltd., have received (he'following advice from their principals, Andrew Clement and Sons, Ltd :—Butter, salted, ' 184s, equal to Is 5.93 d per lb, f.0.b.; unsalted, 198s, equal to Is 7.37 d per lb, f.0.b.; market firm. Cheese, white, 975, equal to 8.75 d per lb, f.0.b.; coloured, 100s, equal 9.05 d per lb, f.0.b.; market steady. Arrived, Port Fremantle. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having received the following cablegram from their London house dated December 13:— Butler: The market is firm. New Zealand, finest, 180s to 186s; Danish, 212s to 2155; Australian, finest unsalted, 182s to 186s; salted, 180s to 182s» good average quality, 172s to 1765. Cheese: The market is steady at present prices. New Zealand, white,. 96s to 98s; coloured, 98s to 100s; Canadian, white and coloured, 108s to 112s. Tho total imports of butter into the United Kingdom last month were 442,000 c wt., as compared with 401,000c\vt. for the corresponding period of last year. Tho Farmers' Auctioneering Company, Limited, Hamilton, has received the following cablegram from its London office: —Butter, 182s to 184s per cwt.; the market continues firm with new arrivals clearing well. Cheese, 97s to 995; market steady.
MARKET REPORTS. FRUIT AND PRODUCE PRICES. Signs of a particularly busy Christmas season were evident in all departments at the Auckland City Markets yesterday. Strawberries were in very heavy supply, and sold well at slightly increased prices. Ample supplies should come forward for the Christmas trade. Local apples and pears are still very dull of sale, the prices remaining low. Canadian apples are in good supply, all varieties selling well at 18b a case. Hothouse tomatoes and gooseberries have dropped considerably in price since last week. Several varieties of early plums are now available, at prices ranging from 7s to 12s a case. The markets were very heavily supplied with new potatoes, green peas, lettuce and new season onions. All varieties were plentiful, and met with a fair demand. Asparagus, however, was unsaleable. Prices remain on o par with those ruling at recent sales. Poultry was in very heavy supply, hens and young cockerels Ireing particularly plentiful. Turkey hens sold at from 6s to 9s each, and gobblers at from 1% to 21s each. Dairy produce showed another slight increase "in price yesterday. The best hen eggs sold at from Is 3d to Is 5d a dozen, and others at corresponding prices. The supply and demand were both moderate. Farmers' butter is also a little dearer, good supplies meeting with a moderate demand. The following prices were realised yesterday : —• FRUIT.
