SHORT LOANS AND BILLS." Short loans, 3J per cent., same as last week; three months' bills, 4 11-32 per cent., compared with 4 5-16 per cent, last week. CONSOLS AND COLONIAL STOCKS. The following table gives quotations for consols and colonial inscribed stocks, compared with those of December 6:— Price. Variation.
WHEAT, FLOUR, PULSE, ETC. Wheat.—Cargoes aio steady on tentative Indian inquiry, with small business, and closed barely steady, with prices irregular. By Hellenic to Continent, 47s 7£d. Parcels are in fair inquiry at outports. Liverpool futures: December delivery, 9s Oid per cental; March, 9s May, 9s 2|d; July, 9s 3|d. The spot trade is quiet, with quotations steady. Australian, ex ship, 495. Flour. —Slow; Australian, ex store, 34s 6d. Oats. —Dull; Australian and Algerian, 27s 6d to 295; A Cartons, 31s to 325. Peas.—Quiet; Blue Tasmanian, £l7 to £18; New Zealand, £l6 to £l7; Maples, Tasmanian, 70s to 72s 6d; New Zealand, 60s to 62s 6d. Beans. —New Zealand, 48s to 50s. BRADFORD TOPS. The Bradford market is stagnant, with a pessimistic tone. 64's are quoted at 3s lOd per lb.; 60's. 3s 7£d; 56's, 2s 9d; 50's, 2s sd: 46's, Is lid; 40's, Is 10£ d. SHEEPSKINS. The sheepskins sales have been concluded. Ihe total offered was 5800 bales. There was keen competition for better classes, but poor for average and scoured qualities, and 75 per cent, was sold. Good Merinos and comebacks were from par to 5 per cent, above October prices; average Merinos and comebacks were from par to 2j per cent, higher; New Zealand crossbreds, about 5 per cent, higher. ECG MARKET. The egg market is very dull, as the supplies exceed the demand. Australian and New Zealand stocks are very difficult to sell. The former are quoted at 16s to 17s 6d, the latter 17s 6d to 18s 6d, exceptionally fine, 19s. METAL MARKETS. (Quotations on Dec. 10 in parentheses). Copper. —Spot, £6B 6s 3d (£6B Is 10£ d); three months, £6B 8s 9d (£6B 8s 9d). Electrolytic copper.—Spot, £74 15s (£74 15s); three months, £75 5s (£75 ss). However, it is considored thai so far very little damago lias been done, though it. will bo a few rlavs before the position is known. The bright conditions since the ruin ceased this morning are encouraging for the time being. Reports "from the country are to tlio effect that much less wheat.'is "laid" than was feared. There is no change in tlio milling wheat market, and buyers are going slow. Fowl wheat is offering freely at. 5s 7d, f.o.b. A little more business has taken place in forward oats. Thero have been sellers of A Cartons at 3s on trucks. A substantial amount of forward business has been dono in potatoes at £4 17s 6d and £5, f.0.b., s.i., for April-June, and purchases havo been made from farmers nt the rather bare equivalent of £3 15s oil trupks. Reports are that crops on lowlying land were under water yesterday, but the potatoes are not far enough advanced to be affected, and tlio water is likely to get away quickly under tlio dry ing conditions that havo set in. 'Quotations for main crop onions are £4 15s a ton, and for February £5, on trucks. Business at £6 ss, f.0.b., s.i., has taken place, but Northern buyers are not much interested.
