SEQUEL TO A "RAG."
COURT FINES FOUR YOUTHS
"Ragging and bullying must be put down," said Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday, when John A. McDonald, James Aitcheson, Albert Elshaw and Robert G. Strong, four youths, were charged on summons with assaulting a boy, whose head they put under a tap, then smearing grease on him. Sub-Inspector McCarthy: Tliey thought they were having a joke with him, but they let the spirit run awav with them. The boy was a bit upset as a result of what happened. All the youths quite frankly admitted their guilt. It was Intended as a "rag" more than anything else. The magistrate said that, although the action probably was (he result of the desire of the youths to "rag," it must be known that such actions could not be allowed. "They should have had more sense, anyway," lie added. Each defendant was fined £l.
