TO-DAY'S WEATHER. HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST. The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.in. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. 11. M Vincent last evening : Mainly fair to fine weather is indicated, but unsettled at times with scattered showers, chiefly in cast coast districts and southern areas. Southerly to southwesterly winds, moderate to strong. Seas mainly moderate, although fairly rough in Cook Strait. Cool temperatures. An area of high barometric pressure, enclosing a fine weather system, is now approaching the Dominion, and pressure is likely to increase gradually everywhere. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 29.95 in. Midnight, Tuesday .. .. 20.75 in.
GOVERNMENT REPORT. Tho Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: The recent cyclone has passed eastwards and a secondary depression crossing southern New Zealand ha.' caused a temporary improvement in the weather to day. An anti-cyclone is advancing from tho Tasman Sea. Indications are for rnoderato to strong westerlies at first, south from Cook Strait, but southwesterlj winds prevailing again everywhere soon and freshening. Seas rough on tho west coast and south of Castlepoint, moderate elsewhere. Moderate to strong south-west to sonlh winds in tho eastern Tasman Sea. with rather ronph seas. Weather fair to cloudy at first on tho ei.st coast., but still unsettled, with scattered' showers in districts with a westerly aspect, and a renewal of generally showery conditions is likely soon. Cold* temperatures.
