STOLEN COPPER CABLE.
TWO MEN ADMIT GUILT. ONE ABOUT TO BE MARRIED. Theft of copper cable, valued at £l6 15s, the property of the Auckland Power Hoard, was admitted by Joseph Ratcliffe, aged 20 (Mr. Schramm), and James John Dc.in, aged 23, in the Police Court yesterday. Ilatrliffe was further charged with receiving cable valued at .C 9.
Jn asking for a remand, Chief Defeetivc Hammond said other < barges of a similar nature were pending. When Mr. Schramm applied for bail in the case of Ratcliffe, the chief detective said I lean was intending to be married on Saturday.
Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.: I think the girl will have to go to gaol for it. "These people cut the cable up in such a way as to make it indistinguishable and then sell it to dealers." said Mr. Hammond. "Tho two arc in association with another person." The magistrate remanded tho two for sentence, until next, Wednesday. Refusing to grant bail, he said: "I am not going to allow cases like this to come here and be treated like hv-law breaches."
