A SCHUBERT EVENING.

TAURANGA MUSIC CLUB. On Friday evening the Tnuranga Women's Music Club ("The Medlians"), held a Schubert Centenary concert in the Parish Hall. The programme comprised several of the great composer's songs. Madame Cora Melvin sang the " Ave Maria"; Miss Guthrie, "The Wanderer," "To Music," " Sea Calm " and the " Serenade" ; Mrs. Christian sang " The i'oung Kun" and "Impatience"; and Miss Mountford, " The Wild Rose." The Rev. A. F. Hall sang "Litanie": Mr. 1). IT. L. Corrigan, " The Lay of the Imprisoned Huntsman": Mr, Norman Day. "Who Is Sylvia?"; and Mr. U. Suddard Foster, " The Krl King."

The instrumental items comprised the sonatina in D major, played by Mrs. Foster, piano, and Mr. E. C. Wool or, violin; the " Unfinished' Symphony." arranged as a piano duet, by Mrs. Foster and Mr. Kenneth Liggett; No. 4 of the " Women's Musieaux," and No. 3 were played respectively bv Miss Chrissie Parkinson, and Mrs. Foster, and the No. 4 " Impromptu " by Mr. Liggett. A short introductory lecture and interesting notes regarding the various items were given by Mrs. F. Wilson. The hall was filled to overflowing, and the highest appreciation of the music was evidenced by the fact that many of tfie items were enthusiastically encored.
