DEVICES ON MOTORS.
AN ADVISORY COMMITTEE. LOCAL BODY REPRESENTATIVE. Objection to tho appointment of a local body official as a member of a proposed committeo to advise the Minister of Public Works on the different devices for use on motor vehicles was expressed at a meeting of the Newmarket Borough Council last evening. A letter from the Minister slated he proposed to appoint the chief traffic inspector of tho Wellington City Council as the representative of local bodies.
Consideration was given to the views of the Traffic Inspectors' Association, which held the opinion that tho appointment of a Wellington official was insufficient, as regulations might bo framed which would bo suitablo in Wellington but not adaptable to tho whole of tho Dominion. The association thought traffic officers of the principal cities should bo given an opportunity to comment on all regulations before they wero gazetted.
The council favoured tho recommenda tion of the association, but Mr. C. E. Smerdon said tho council should go further and ask for the appointment of a member of tho Wellington City Council in placo of an official. It was decided to approach tho Minister with this suggestion
