AMERICAN INFLUENCE.

NATURAL FORCES AT WORK.

NEW ZEALAND AND AUSTRALIA

Australian and N.Z. Press Association. NEW YORK. Nov. 20.

The New York Sun, in a leading article commenting on American influence in Australia and New Zealand, says: "It is partly a matter of geography. New Zealand and Australia being much neater to America than to England. " American inventiveness and practical application and its results arc other factors. The Australian or New Zealand farmer cannot but be aware of America when an American -alarm-clock awakens him and an American sewing-machine sews at his wife's requirement.

" Mutual interest, Pacific problems, and similar democratic ideals further tend to bring Australians, New ZcalandciY> and Amcii'-ans together. Britain naturaiiy desires to keep Australia and New Zealand purely British and intelligently endeavours to Hcromph.-h this; but it is a question whether a deliberate policy, no matter how assiduously it is applied, can do much to offset natural forces."
