CIRCUMSTANCES OF DEATH. LAHORE POLICE EXONERATED. (Received November 27. 5.3 p.m.) British Wireless. I'LOB\. Nov. '.'6. Questions were asked in the House of Commons to-day about the circumstances surrounding the death of the Punjab loader, Lajpat Ilai.. Particular reference was made to the allegations of his friends that his death had resulted from blows delivered by a policeman on the occasion of tho public demonstration against the Simon Commission at Lahore. Lord Wintnrton, Under-Secretary for India, replied that two inquiries had been held into the incident at Lahore. It arose out of an illegal procession which had been forbidden by tho police. Tho Secretary of State, for India, iscount Peel, was satisfied that no more force was used than was necessary to prevent the. crowds breaking through the barricades.
There was no deliberate oi unprovoked attack by tho police and no individual was singled out for assault. No evidcnco had been adduced to show that tho death of Lajpat T'ni was due to blows received from a policeman.
