One of tho most violent thunder, storms ever known in tho Opotiki district took plaeo last night. It was accom. panied by remarkably vivid lightning and lasted for two to three hours.
In tho soldiers' settlement at Woodlands several cattle were killed by lightning, At tho height of the storm a local wireless enthusiast decided to Uiko down his aerial for safety, lie was leaning out, of a window handling tho wire whet) 9 strong flash ot lightning struck him am] burled him back across the room. IJ e sustained slight burns and is slowly js. covering from the shock.
Tho Power Board employees wcro early on tho road this morning mending faults caused by tho stoun. Tho rain whjch fell was badly needed, and as a 1 esult tho grass paddocks will benefit.
