"I believe that complaints were mado by somo of tho onlookers that there was insufficient pressure, but this is not the case Tho mains were sufficient to cope with the fire, but tho fire spread so rapidly that it got ahead of us. Wo had every pump going—five pumps at work at once—and we had everv man out except five, 43 men in nil. Wo'had 16 leads on to the fire. "I would like to thank the tailors from IT.M.S. Dunedin who so willingly assisted, (he auxiliary firemen and the fire police, all of whom did good work."
