ELLERSLIE TRAINING NOTES

CORINAX GOES WELL.

BY ARCHER.

Track conditions were excellent at Ellerslie yesterday and there was some interesting work. Most of the galloping wus done 011 the outside of the course proper, tlio trestles being out 42ft. The No. 2 grass, the tail and sand were also in use. Corinax was responsible for the best gallop ill beating several companions over seven furlongs, and Gold Money also pleased by a smart effort over four furlongs. COURSE PROPER. Corinax gavo Lomint, "War Officer and Red Lion a couple of lengths' break and beat them over seven furlongs in 1-32 3-5. The Alison Cup candidate worked really well. Lomint also moved nicely and Red Lion did likewiso until his saddle slipped in the straight, where 110 was cased.

Golden "Wedding and Thursby ran the first four furlongs of a mile in 635, and completed the full distance in 1.48. Golden Wedding always had tho measure of hei companion over tho filial stages und finished a couple of lengths clear. Vallar comfortably beat Palmares over fivo furlongs in 1.5 45. A allar is steadily 011 the improve, and should soon extend his record.

Miss Myrtle and Respirator wero associated over five furlongs in l.b, tho fonnei being a shade in front.

Taueriri and Double Mint were responsible for seven furlongs in 1 'l3 4-5. They were kicked out at the finish and camo homo 011 terms.

Ynlsier easily beat Moil Star over six furlongs ill 1 "21 3-3. Vnlsier ran (ho first three in 31) 3-ss, five in l.t* 2-5, and then cased up Ho is on t ho up-grade. Modest Boy and Hydo Park were almost on terms ut the conclusion of seven furlongs in 1.31. Hyde Park had the worst of the weights, niul his effort was very satisfactoiy. Modest Boy also went well. Bannock sprinted five furlongs in I.G 4-5. Lord Abbey and Lucklaino went a furlong further in 1.22 35. Lord Abbey held the advantage at the finish, but Lucklaino s rider lost an iron.

Lady's Boy was going easier than Knight Town nt tho end of six furlongs in 1.22 3-5. Lady's Boy is in splendid trim to undertake liis engagements' this week. Bennie sprinted three furlongs in 3'.) 4-ss. Praetor and Gemlight began slowly at the five-furlong post and came homo in 1.10. They ran the last four in 51s, and were travelling well at the finish.

Optimistic was timed to run five fuilongs iQ 110 " NO. 2 CRASS.

Sir Russell, who has recovered from the trouble that kept him idle for a few days last week, worked usefully over a round and strode out freely. Salamander performed a similar task.

Biznrro comfortably beat Diamond Ijuecn over n round, running the hist seven furlongs in. I.3'J 1-5. NOTES FROM THE TRACK. The two-year-olds Norvnl Ten. Neil nnd Blue Grey were sprinted from n barrier start on the outside of the course proper at Kllerslie yesterday. Norvnl Tea began quickest and was equal to leading her companions over several furlongs. The following riding engagements have been announced for the first day of the Takapuna meetingJ. Cammick: Corinnx. Taneriri, Leitrim, Now Moon, Norval Jca and Sea Star. H. Wiggins: Papain, Tc Atiawa, Millais, Jolly Money and Cymon. Tho sound gallop recorded by Corinax yesterday is likely to keep him in favour for tho Alison Cup, and ho is certain to be one of the popular fancies for that race. The Magpie gelding ia a gross customer that requires plenty of work, and his trainer will probably stretch him out again before the meeting. Another good gallop will not be to his disadvantage.

Without registering anything special Golden Wedding has been working very freely and is undoubtedly ati improved liiarc. Golden Wedding did not do as well as expected among tho handicap horses in the Dargaville Cup, but should make a better showing at her next attempt, at a middle distance, which will probably bo in tho Alison Cup. There are several in that rnce who3o chances read better, but blio should not be disgraced.

It should not be for lnck of condition if Ilydo Park and Modest Boy fail to race with some success in the near future. N. Cunningham has his charges in great heart and their latest work has been accomplished in pleasing style. Hyde Park nnd Modest Boy will bo racing ut Takapuna nnd are likely to command good support in their engagements. The former was narrowly beaten at his last start when lie ran second to Flying Juliet in the President's Handicap at the Dargavillo meeting.

J. D. Kemp wont across to Takapuna yesterday with Jolly Money, and will remain Ihero with liis charso until nfler tho luoctinjj. Jolly Money has improved in condition lnteiy and has also been working well, so that lio cun lie expected to perform creditably in his engagements.
