SANDERS CUP CONTEST.
CHALLENGE FROM AUCKLAND.
The .Auckland acht and Motor Boat [Association decided last evening to forward a challenge to the Canterbury Association for the Sanders Memorial Cup.
iu appealing to tho various delegates to support llio contest the chairman, Mr. O. Moller, said tho Sanders Cup races had done a great deal to further tho sport of yachting, licit only in Auckland, but also throughout tho Dominion. Before the contest had been instituted yachting in Dunedin was "dead," and new life had been put into it. Even if it were, not the wish of Auckland to tako part the clubs should still do so for tho good of tho sport in New Zealand as a whole. Although interest was not so keen in Auckland compared with a few years ago southern yachtsmen were keener than ever and it would bo a great pity if the contest, which after all was a New Zealand yachting classic, was allowed to drop. Tho motion to forward tho challenge was carried unanimously, although one <> r two delegates declared they would have to consult their clubs on tho question of contributing their sharo of the cost of the contest. Tho fixture will bo held at Akaroa next February.
