THE POLITICAL SITUATION.
Sir. " Honesty :s the Best Policy " lias certainly voiced the opinion of a large section of {lie electors wlio do not wish to have Sir Joseph Ward as Prime Minister. My impression of thri recent election is that a general feeling was in evidence that Reform's largf; majority should be reduced —not that the Reform Government should be put out of oflice. The feeling against Sir Joseph Ward as Prime Minister must be strengthened in the minds of most fair-minded people when they realise the tactics adopted by the United Party—the various' alliances they made, the personal slander they indulged in (tactics which the Labour Party publicly repudiated), the mystery of the request to Sir Joseph Ward to lead the party, his subsequent election while P.P.A." objectors were silenced with offers of Ministerial rank, his announcoment that be would raise £70,000,000 in 12 months, costing the country nothing (afterwards altered (o 10 years), the disgraceful un-British conduct toward the Prime Minister on election night by a crowd of opponents at Wellington, and the unsportsmanlike exaggerated statements of tho relative strength of parties by Sir Joseph Ward after the election. All of these matters are beginning to make people realise that a great wrong has been done to tho gentlemen who have honestly, sincerely, and successfully carried this country through the greatest trials in its existence. Faikminded.
