ROMA OILFIELD.
OPERATIONS AT THE BORE, RUSH OF GAS EXPECTED. Intenso excitement prevailed over the whole town of Roma, Queensland, earl}' last week, concerning tho prospects of Roma Oil Corporation's No. 2 bore. While reticence was observed regarding the formation at present being encountered it was stated that tho drillers were on top of some very interesting formation, and were expecting to strike a rush of gas at any time. The Sydney Morning Herald says:— "Slow progress was made by tho drillers during week-end. Tho depth at midnight on Saturday (November 10) was 3b39t't. Drilling operations ceased on Friday, and all steam was concent rated on tho gas absorption plant, which was tested to full pressure. "Details of tests have not yet been made available. The drilleis appear to be proceeding with extreme caution. The discontinuance of drilling on Friday was stated to bo due to delay in tho arrival of some new drill column. This is required to pierce the present formation without risk, as the present drill column is thought to bo slightly worn, and drillers will not take any undue risks at a critical period. It is reported that nil pressure gauges have been set, and every precaution taken in the event of a flow of m. "Hospital fTill, on which tho liore is situated, presents tho appearance of a growing village. Drillers at Mooga bore have reached about 1000 ft. (las showings at present liavo practically subsided there, allowing progress without interruption."
