BUTTER SELLS FREELY.
FIRM UNDERTONE OF MARKET CHEESE RETAILED CHEAPER. Advantage has been taken within recent weeks of the sound values ruling for dairy produce in London to quit large quantities of New Zealand butter. Very little old season's butter remains in stoic in London aud rew butter is a sound market. A reduction in the retail price of cheese promises more activity in that connection.
Amalgamated Dairies, Ltd., yesterday received the following cablegram from its London manager:—Butter: Finest, 132 s: prices unchanged; other finest offered at 178s to I80s; market temporarily quiet, with a linn undertone. Danish, 200s; spot, 195.s f.o.b. Deliveries of New Zca land, 1520 tons; stock. 3605. Retail prices unchanged. Cheese: White, 105s to 104s; coloured, 102s: market weak, with a downward tendency. Canadian, 103s to 112s; spot, Novembers, 98s c.i.f.; retail reduced to Is Id. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office as at the close of business List week:—Butter: Firm, 174s to 182s per cwt. Cheese: Quiet ; white, 105s to 105s; coloured, 102s to 104s.
A. S. Patersou and Company, Ltd., yesterday received the following cablegram from J. and J. Lonsdale aud Company, Ltd., London: —Butter: There is a good demand. Arrivals are clearing and cold store stocks arc very small. V c anticipate a healthy trade for next month. Danish, 200s; New Zealand, 175s to 180s. Australian, unsalted, 186s; salted, 170s to 1745. Argentine, 150s to 182s. Cheese: Quiet. Sellers are anxious. New Zealand, 102s to 104s. Canadian, 110s to 112s. PRODUCE IN LONDON, TALLOW AND HEMP. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram dated November 24 from the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London:— Tallow.—No auction this week owing to lack of fresh arrivals. Demand very quiet and prices unchanged to slightly easier. Hemp.—Manila: Market better in tone and more trade interest shown. Closing value for December-February shipments, i "J" grade, £35. Sisal: Market firm with | buyers at £39 for No. I in any position I until April-duno shipment, and No. 2 £36 15s. New Zealand: Market unchanged. Small business doing, principally afloat, at high points, £53 15s; fair, £3O 10s: common, £29. Stocks in Great Britain on October 31, 51 tons, as against 88 tons at the same time last year. Tow. —Quiet and little offering. Values unchanged. FROZEN MEAT MARKET. QUOTATIONS FROM LONDON. The Bank of New Zealand has received the following advice from its London office as at the close of business last netk: — Frozen meat: There is practically no demand for wethers. The market for ewes is dull. The lamb market is fairly well supplied and moderate business has lieen done. The beef market is firm. Continued bad weather has hampered trade gener ally.
