Miss Wolters left yesterday for Wellington on her return from the Girl Guide Association Conference held in Auckland last week.

Mrs. \V\ Nicholson Miller, of Ilavelock North, is on a visit to Auckland, and is the. guest of her sister, Mr.s. Douglas McGregor, of Arney Crescent, llcriiuera.

A social evening was held liy the Auckland women's branch of tho Labour Party in the club room, Tabornaclo Buildings, last week. Mrs. Soljak presided over a good attendance of members and friends. It was decided to start a Dickens Reading Circle, (o bo expanded later into a dramatic club should sufficient talent be forthcoming among the younger'members. Mr. Vivian, who is the convener, outlined tho plan, proposed, and 12 members enrolled. Musical items were given by Mr. Carr, and refreshments were served by the ladies.

'I ho National Reserve division of St. John Ambulance Brigade held a most successful dance in Mr. Whittaker's hall at Ostend on Saturday. Tlio music was supplied bv Miss Fergusson and Mr. Webster. There was an attendance of approximately 100 couples, and the proceeds, which came to about £7, will bo used to equip the divisional station at Onetangi with medical requisites. Items wero given by Misses June and Joyce Train or, Miss Morrow and Master Pavlovicli. Both hall and music wero given gratis for the dance.

A very enjoyablo afternoon was spent in Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Ferguson's picturesque garden, Victoria Avenue, by the newlv-formed garden-makers' section of tlio League of New Zealand Penwomen. After a ramble about the grounds and native bush their visit terminated with afternoon tea, at which they were the guests of Mr. arid Mrs. Ferguson. Among those present were:—Mrs. A. Stuart Boyd, president of tlio league, Mesdames Griffiths, Wright, Brownlee, Carr-Rollett, Meikle, Richmond, Misses Sweet, Melville (2), Orr and Mr. Stuart Boyd.
