A process which converts "waste petroleum into coal was announced at an intcrnulional conference of bituminous coal owners at Pittsburg. Th» new process is that of Dr. Walter Rittman. The inventor uses waste petroleum after all the gasolino obtainable by " cracking " has been extracted by heatin,!?. He then runs the waste petroleum through pipe-coils several thousand feet long. Each 400 tons of the waste material is changed through vapour into 500 tons of oil, which is recovered for the manufacture of gasoline, and info 100 tons of coal, which runs out in liquid form and then hardens.
