DESTRUCTIVE FIRE.
PREMISES AT HAMILTON. DAMAGE ESTIMATED AT £2OOO, [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON, Thursday. Damage estimated at £2OOO was done bv a fire which occurred at 2.30 a.m. today in a block of wooden buildings ownpd by Mr. 11. 11. Howden, and situated in Victoria Street. Hamilton. „ Tho outbreak occurred in a shop occupied by Mr. J. Monk, a dealer in toys and fancy goods. It was discovered by Mr. G. Worth, a baker, who was employed not far away. The flames had a good hold when the brigade arrived. Mr. Monk's shop was completely gutted, and its contents destroyed. A large quantity of celluloid goods and tho dry walls of the shop made a spectacular blaze. Slight damage was done to the premises of Mr-. R. E. Conradi, printer, and to the stock of the Alaska Fur Company, which occupied an'adjoining shop. Mr. Monk estimates bis loss of'slock at £IOOO.
The building was insured for £750 in the London and Lancashire Office, and Mr. Monk's stock was insured for £BSO in the South British Office.
