TROTTING CONTROL.

STRICT SUPERVISION. BY PICADOB. / ■ Several cases of liorsejj displaying consider* ably better form on the second day than on the opening day have occurred at recent meetings and unfortunately the latest, meeting was not 'without incidents of this kind. Horses cannot bo expected to race alike every day, but whera striking improvement , is shown in the course of n few days it gives rise to suspicion. Tlicro is a strong feeling among many keen followers of \ trolling that some of our drivers and owners are not os scrupulous as they might be and Ihis is not good for the sport. T rotting lias gained great popularity in the Dominion and thero is a danger that this may be I jeopardised unlens strict supervision is maintained. Vigilance on tho part of tho stipendiary stewards and action by judicial committees will keep tho sport clean and act ns a deterrent to those inclined to take risks. . Inquiries instituted in the right direction on tho first day of meetings will also have a good effect. It is far better to question doubtful cases before horses have the opportunity of showing marked improvement at their next start.
