MONEY IN GOLF.
NEW TYPE OF BALL. MORE SKILL REQUIRED. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] SYDNEY, Nov. 15. There is nioro nionoy in golf than in commerce nowadays, that is, if one is a Hagen or a Kirkwood. Kirkwood, tlie noted Australian professional, returned to Sydney to-day, aecompanied by his wife, to look in upou some of his formor associales when he was much lower 011 the rungs of the ladder of fame than he is to-day. Kirkwood lias done well for himself in the United States since he left the land of his birth. Ho has no intention of residing here, but he can afford to spend a very enjoyable holiday. Kirkwood had something to say about the new ball which should be of interest to New Zealand enthusiasts. According to him the new ball will come into general use in America in 1930. It will not be so long, he says, as the present ball. It will bo harder* to control, and will necessitatc more skill. The present ball, which is too long, tends to bring golf down to long driving and putting, he added. Tho new ball would result in a greater variety of golf shots and tend to a more varied game. In America Kirkwood says golf is largely ousting baseball for popular favour.
