INTERNAL PARASITES.
METHOD OF TREATMENT. - ' . - - •••* • " Pigs harboring tho common ' intestinal roundworm frequently become unthrifty. Spring pigs that havo survived that stago in tho development of the \Vorm whereby the eggs are swallowed and migrate through tho lungs in tlio larvae stago will now show symptoms of the worn stage, in which large numbers of tho worms aro found in tho small intestines, says an' oversaas agricultural journal. l'igs become uneven in size, unthrifty, rough coated, and are frequently found in'iits of violent coughing. The long roundworm is tho only species of internal p&rasito of swine that may bo successfully expelled. Tho Illinois Experiment Station suggests tho follow? ing agencies ft r expelling this parasite. Reliable vermifuges include oil of chenopodium or santonin'. Tho dose of santonin' is 5 grains fot a 501b. pig. it is generally given in a capsule with 2 grains of calomel. Oil of cheiiopodium should bo used in doses of .2 cubic centimeters to each 501b live weight, and should bo given in capsule or mixed with one ounce of castor oil and given with a doso syringe. If chenopodium is given in capsule form it should bo followed two or threo hours later with a quick-acting purgative in the feed. Epsom salts may bo used for this latter purpose in amounts of one ounce per 1001b. live weight.
