Can milking cows bo toned up with the aid of artificial sunlight ? was a novel point at an address on electricity as applied to agriculture, given by Mr. A. C. Cameron Brown at the Moulton Farm Institute,. Northampton, recently. The principal, Mr. W. A. Stewart, raised the question during tlio discussion, and said thai toward the end of February or tho beginning of March farmers had a certain amount -of trouble with their milking cows, apparently because they had got to a low vitality at tho end of tho winter, through lack of sunshine. Would it bo possible where a farm had an electrical supply to givo tho cows tlio ultra-violet rays? Mr. B. W. pothard, A.M.1.E.E., said ho had never heard of tho theory of applying tho ultra-violet rays treatment to cows, but ho thought it was quite feasible, and tho cost ■ would bo next to nothing. liens laid moro eggs, and moro cheerfully, if an electric light was placed in 'tfie laying fiens, arid 'at the Zoo the monkey enjoyed tho ultra-violet rays.
