FAILURE OF SHOP VENTURE. An estimated deficiency of £O9 was shown in the bankrupt estate of George Francis Movie, ship's engineer, of Pon son by (Mr. flold water), whose creditors met yesterday. In his statement bankrupt referred to the illness of two of his three children and said it was evident they were not receiving sufficient nourishment. He had been unahle to afford food lecommended bv a doctor. The schedule showed £99 owing to unsecured creditors and £SB to secured creditors. A surplus of £lO from seniri lies reduced the total deficiency to £O9 Bankrupt said he was earning C 6 a week. lie came to New Zealand in Do comber, 1024, and his wife and children followed In in some monl.hs later. In March. 1926. ho purchased a house in Stanley Bay for £1025, paying £l9 in cash He rented a shop at Devonport at El a week and Ins wife set up as a children's outfitter, but the. venture was a failure He could not keep up thtf payments ori the house and it was trans ferred back to thr onffinnl owner He purchased furniture on the hire purcfinse system and £l7 iv«> still owing.
Replying to questions bankrupt said lie played golf, but it cost him only £1 a year He had been at races only once in his life.
A cteditor said ho would oppose bank rupt's discharge until lie made some atternpt to meot his liabilities. Tlio official assignee, Mr. C. N. Morris, said that that would bo all right as bank rupt was willing to waif, for his discharge No re&olution was adopted, as there was not a quorum present.
