THE RESTORATION ISSUE.

NO-LICENCE CONFIRMED.

ADVERSE VOTE IN SOME AREAS

Polls were taken yesterday in 12 nolicence districts on the question whether licences should be restored, a three-fifths majority being necessary to reverse the present condition of no-licence.

CHANGES IN DISTRICTS.

Polls on the-' question of maintaining local no-licence were taken in 1925 in 12 districts. For the first time, restoration was carried, Ohinemuri, which, adopied no-licenco in 1908, deciding in favour of the restoration of licences by 4114 votes to 2663. The majority exceeded the Required three-fifths by only 48 votes. Following are the detailed returns for the various districts at the 1925 polls:

The districts named Eden and Roskill in 1925 are now Auckland Suburbs and Eden respectively, the name Roskill having been transferred to the new district. Twelve districts adopted no-licence under the local option -.vstem, beginning with Clutha in 1894 and ending with six in 1908. As a result of tho changes in electoral boundaries, and in spite of the elimination of Ohinemuri, there a-e still 12 "dry" districts Bruce, which carried nolicence in 1908, and Ashburton, which had abolished licences in 1902, have disappeared from (lie list of electorates, but Roskill, Auckland Suburbs and Wellington East have been added through the division of no-licence districts.
