ROADING MATTERS.

TAKING-OVER AT ORAKEI.

DETAILS OF CONDITIONS. NEGLECT AT MISSION BAY. Roads on the first subdivisional block at Orakei will ho taken over by the City Council when an agreement arranged with the Government departments concerned has been executed.

Among the conditions are (hat the Public Works Department or the Lands Department should pay for the completion of footpaths, including tarring and sanding, at the rale of Is a square yard; that the Public Works Department should accept responsibility for all slips tlwt have occurred on tho roadways and continue measures for their prevention; and that a settlement should bo arranged regarding the dangerous portions of Ihe roadways requiring fencing. Complaint that the roads on the Mission Bay Estate, Kohimarama, were in a neglected state, and that there had been no supervision or maintenance of roads since tho amalgamation of Tamaki with the city was made by C. F. Bennett, Limited.

The engineer, Mr. W; E. Bush, reported maintenance attention iiad been given from time to time since the amalgamation, but, owing to the nature of the construction, considerable damage had been done during every heavy rainfall. The Works Committee had inspected the roads, but had decided to authorise only maintenance work in the meantime, as to effect improvements to tho channels in the places most seriously affected by storm-water would cost £SOO.

A reply will be given in terms of the

report. The council authorised the commencement of improvement work on The Drive, Epsom, at a total cost of £2452, toward which the Mount Hoskill Road Board has offered lo contribute £1250.
