TITIRANGI ROAD.
Sir, —May 1 be permitted to reply to a letter published in your issue of the 7th instant over the, signature of Mr. Marshall l,aing, chairman, W'aitemata County Council. Mr. Laing refers to the files of the County Council for records that, the Auckland City Council offered one-third toward the concreting of Titirangi Koad, when bo very well knows that Sir dames Gunson stated that this offer was made verbally at a meeting of delegates from interested local bodies, who turned itdown. Sir James Gunson repeated this statement, to Mr. Laing only yesterday with myself as a witness. 1 must point out also that during the by-election for the Eden electorate some two years ago Sir James Gunson made the same statement that Mr. Laing has now taken exception to, but on that occasion 1 expressed the opinion that the offer was only 16 2-3 rd per cent., only to bo assured by Mr. Laing thai 33 l-3rd per cent, was the correct figure. Mr. Laing evidently considers the statement a reflect ion on himself as riding membei for Titirangi, and 1 submit that such a reflection is fully justified, as Mr. Laing refused to attend the meeting referred to above, and until recently proved to be the stumbling block in the way of our concrete road, not by direct opposition, but by absolute apathy in this matter. In view of these facts it seems necessary to look further than the point, in question to find the motive for Mr. Laing's letter, published practically on the eve of the elections. John Giuerson, President. Titirangi Ratepayers' Assn.
