HAMILTON HIGH SCHOOL.
CONSTRUCTION OF HOSTEL. QUESTION REGARDING PLAN. [IJY TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] HAMILTON, Friday. Preliminary stops in (ho construction of a boys' hostel at tho Hamilton High School were considered at a meeting of the Board of Governors to-day, presided over by Mr. C. L. MacDiarmid. It was stated that an architect had been commissioned in 1914 to make a rough plan and estimate of a suitable building, but the board had not been able to proceed with tho work. Tho expense incurred in the preliminary plan, approximately £3OO, had been shared between tho board and the Education Department. The question was asked 'whether the board should inspect the plan made in 1914 and find if it was still suitable.
Hon. J. A. Young said lie thought it would be out of date. There had been a considerable improvement in the construction of schools and dormitories during the past few years, and a new plan would be desirable. The question was asked whether the cost of preparing the new plan would be deduete'd from the grant made by the Government for the hostel, or whether it would have to come out of the incidentals fund of the school. Definito information was not available on this point and it was decided to ask the department under what agreement an architect should be appointed.
