TENNIS IN FRANCE.

trouble about taxation. Tournament play affected. Australian Pious Association —United Service (Received October 2.5, 8.-10' p.m.) PARIS. Oct. 25. The ban placed by the French Lawn Tennis Federation on inter-club tennis because of the Treasury's decision to impose an amusement tax has upset the schedule of the Riviera Tennis Club's meeting at Monte Carlo. It- has been decided that the Monaco tournaments shall be carried out on the old courts instead of on the new ones, which aro situated on French territory. Other clubs have written to the federation pointing out that, losses amounting to thousands of pounds are involved in the prohibition. Failing a • favourable reply they will appeal to the Government on the ground that they have regularly paid taxes for three years. If tho matter is not settled satisfactorily tournaments will be played in Italy.
