THE ANGLICAN CHURCH.
Sir,—lt i.i interesting to reflect upon the deliberations of the" synod just closed. The Prayer Book, the Hymn Book and tho Cathechisin seem to have claimed much attention. New fringes on old garments! Canon James stated that in England tho Church has been discussing some of these things since a date when many of us were in swaddling clothes. The Australian Synod has been debating the question of greater independence from the fee of Canterbury. What a force exists behind the knowledge that at the end of discussion immediately begins the power to act! Who will say that, given this power, greater things cannot be done, or that there are not greater things- to do. Out of an age of somnolence in our Church two great camps have been born; fundamental evangelicalism and Catholicism—separately both good, both needing their particular guiding star. These realities and their effects will continue to arise and sooner or later v.ill have to bo fared with courage and competence. Notwithstanding the chorus of voices to tho contrary, the motion designed to strengthen the" Sunday School -.management was
right. P. J. Goldfinch. 5, Woodley Avenue, Remuera, Octo ber 25.
