TRAMS IN NEWMARKET.
ALTERATIONS TO TRACK. COMMENCEMENT OT WORK. The tramways department <'f the City Council has made a commencement with the reconstruction of the tram tracks in the Triangle, Newmarket, in accordance with the improvement scheme sanctioned by local ratepayers last Thursday. The initial work is being directed to putting down points and tracks for the new curve which will supersede the present lines. When this work is finished the new safety zono will bo constructed opposite tho old Newmarket picture theatre, and tho existing lines will bo removed and the strip of road previously occupied by them will be concreted. Some days must elapse to allow the concrete foundations for tho points to dry. After that it is expected the. work will only take a fortnight to complete. During the progress of reconstruction traffic will have, free use of Broadway as at present. At tho samo time traffic on Manukau Road would bo advised to make use of Victoria Crescent and tho new bridge over the, railway to avoid congestion at the scene of operations in tho Triangle.
