finishins Valroe was a nose away third and Unoco fourth. Next to finish were Oscar, Taneriro and Volimond. Hakanoa and Te Ncreru should he usoful hacks, and Valroo is a likely improver. Volimond should also do better. Flying Prince was an odds-ou favourite for the Ruakura Stakes. Gigolo and Awamutu also being well supported. alstreet delayed the start, and wis eventually left some lengths. Flying Prince and Awamutu were soon in front, and they were the leaders round the bend from Fraser, Dalston and Gigolo. Flying Prince bored out on Awamutu in the run home, and they finished wide out. Flying Prince won by a neck from Awamutu. Fraser, on the inside, was a neck away third, and Dalston fourth. Spa nnd Gigolo were next. Flying Prince and Awamutu are both trained by F. Loomb. Fraser made a good showing, and should improve. There was solid wagering on the Haniil- | ton Handicap, with Catkin. Valkon and I Mint Leaf the best, supported. Micrometer i was soon in front, with Valkon. Catkin. | King Smock and Papain also prominent. Micrometer nnd Valkon were first into the straight from King Smock. Te Kara, who moved up fast crossing the top. Catkin and Mint Leaf. Below the distance Valkon drew out, and won decisively by two lengths from Catkin, who defeated Mint Leaf by a similar margin. Pale Star was fourth, and then followed Te Kara, King ! Smock and Queen Arch. Valkon was i always prominent, and gave nothing a chance at the 'finish. Catkin made a slightly better showing than on the opening day. but the pace was not fast enough early to suit either Te Kara or Mint Leaf. The eight runners iu the Tattwhure Ilisliweight Handicap were backed in the order they appeared in the book, Stormy, Schorr and Mervette being rather evenly supported. Schorr ran to the front inside a furlong from Mei'vetto and Waltzer. Running across the top Waltzer took charge, hut .Schorr was again the lender at tlie turn, with Waltzer, Stormy. Bright Day and Mervette following. Stormy issued a challenge at tlie distance, and in a good finish bent Schorr by a nose, Mervette being three lengths away third. Wenday was fourth, with H'angawera and Bright Day next. Handy and Bourn were best backed for the Waikato Steeplechase, the winner, Rahepoto. being an outsider. Handy and Archangel made play over the first round, but at the. double they were closely attended by Master Arch, Mangani, Potoanui and Bourn. Running along the back Master Arch drew away in front, and turned across the top clear of Handy, Rahepoto, Bourn and Mangnni. Bourn fell at the post and rails, and Mangani followed suit at the next. Master Arch came on to the course proper clear of Rahepoto. the others being well beaten. Rahepoto drew level at the last fence, and came on to beat Master Arch by six lengths. Clockwork was 20 lengths awny third. Hazelburn was a moderate fourth, and Hnndv fifth. Mashoor fell in the first round. Bourn and Mangani were both going well when they fell. There was solid betting on the Kirikiriroa Handicap, Flying Juliet, Kingfield, Macroom and Pegaway all being heavily backed. Oration was quickest to begin, followed by Kingfield and Ballymoy 11. Kingfield was in charge across the top, and led round the bend from Ballymoy 11., Oration. Macroom. Flying Juliet nnd Pegaway, who were in close order. Pegaway challenged at the distance, and came on to beat Kingfield by a neck. Oration was three lengths back third, with Ballymoy 11. fourth. Then came Macroom and Tinoiti. Leitrim was a good favourite for the Taupiri Hack Handicap, with Speechless and Komak also in demand. Leitrim and Upoko led to the turn, where Leitrim drew out to win by two lengths from Komak. who beat Speechless by two and n-half lengths. Te Waka was fourth, with Upoko and Maurea next.
