OPTIMISTIC OUTLOOK.
FAITH IN NEW SOUTH WALES. PROMINENT GRAZIER'S VISIT. "I have t-he greatest faith in New South Wales," said Mr. Anthony Ilordcrn, one of tho largest and most influential land holders in Australia, who was a passenger from Sydney by tho Niagara yesterday. Mr. llordern, who until two years ago was managing director of tho large Sydney firm of Anthony llordern and Company, is on his way to England to join his family. Mr. llordern owns 110,000 acres in the west of New South Wales, on which graze thousands of the finest Merino sheep. He also has a model farm of 1000 acres at Bowral, where stud Shorthorns are bred for shipment to various parts of Australia and South Africa.
"Agriculturally, Now South Wales is in a very good way," Mr. Ilordcrn said. " The droughts are tho great drawbacks, but so far the season has been a very good one Tho pnccs for cattlo aro gradually improving, while there is every indieatiou of tho prices for wool being steady. My own opinion is that they will improve toward the end of tho season. I do not wish to say anything about labour troubles. They have never affected me."
Mr. llordern has undertaken an irrigation schomo for his western property, which will cost him about £50,000. Water is being drawn from the Murrumbidgee River by means of electric pumps. "This is tho first time electric pumps have been used on tho Murrumbidgeo in connection with irrigation, and I have proved it can bo carried out at no great cost," said Mr. llordern.
