BRUCE DEPLORES COMPETITION

The Prime Minister. Mr. Bruce, passed through Sydney to-day after his election tour in Queensland. He commented adversely on tiie competition between the
six Australian Stales and the Federal Government for overseas loan money, and on the tendency of the State Governments lo set up separate social departments for the relief of I lie very people for whom the Commonwealth was catering. Mr. Bruce recommended that t lie Federal Government's national insurance scheme should be accepted as the. basis of a social effort with general co-ordina-tion.
With regard to workmen's compensation, child endowment, and widows' pensions. Mr. Bruce said no separate State could unduly hamper its industries by the cost of such social legislation.
