GIRLS' SPORTS GROUNDS.

APPEAL TO THE PUBLIC. CIVIC SQUARE ENTERTAINMENT. An appeal to the public of Auckland for funds to assist in running sports grounds at Remuera, was commenced last evening by the Auckland Girls' Athletic Association, and will conclude to-day. About 500 girls gave an interesting display of drill and games on the civic square site lastevening, and hundreds of people gathered to watch it. This is the first time an entertainment of the kind has been given right in the heart \>f the city, and it proved a great success. While the crowd was watching, numbers of girls were busy selling buttons near the display and in other parts of the city. The proceedings at the civic square were enlivened with selections by the Ponsonby Boys' Band. Tho appeal will continue to-day, and it is expected the effort will result in a very satisfactory sum being collected.
