[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.]
?UKEKOHE, Thursday.
The discovery of a man lying dead on tho roadside between Bombay and the Razorback, with a half-emptied bottle of poison alongside him, was made by Mr. W. H. Pratt about 8 o'clock this morning. The Pukekohe police were notified, and later in the day brought the body in to Pukekohe.
Correspondence found in the pockets of the man's clothing indicated that he was James Alan Sr.iith, a farm labourer, whose permanent address was No. 8, Upper Vincent Street, Auckland, and that lately he had been working at Turua and Putaruru. His relatives appeal' to be in South Africa, and a certificate of discharge from the South African forces, in 1917, and a passport to New Zealand were found. In addition there was a post office savings bank passbook with a credit sufficient for his maintenance for at least two months. The man appeared to be about 36 years of age.
The body was found on tho side of a road leading off the Great South Road. It was about 300 yds. from the main road and about a quarter of a mile from Mr. Pratt's house. It was fully clothed and there appeared to have been no violence.
