THE CONNOLLY CASE.

OWNER'S DISQUALIFICATION.

APPEAL FOR REHEARING.

MELBOURNE. July S

The Victoria Racing Club has received an application from E. A. Connolly for a rehearing of his case. It is Btated that unusual evidence is mow available.

A sensation was caused in turf circles on Juno 5, stated tho Australasian, when it was announced that E. A. Connolly had been disqualified for 12 months. After that owner-trainer's filly Broken 801 l had won tho Princes. Handicap at Flemington on June 2, tho V.R.C. stipendiary stewards, Messrs. W. H. Johnston, J. T. Green, and G. G. Heslop, opened an inquiry into the running of that filly in the first division of the Novice Handicap afc Aspendale, as compared with her form at Flemington. The finding of the stewards was made in the following form:—"That Broken Doll was not allowed by P. O'Hanlon to do her best in the first division of tho Novice Handicap at Aspendale Park on May 23, 1928, and they {the stewards) are satisfied that E. A. Connolly knew it when he backed her so heavily for the Princess Handicap at Flemington on June 2. The stewards, therefore, found both E. A. Connolly and P. O'Hanlon guilty of dishonourable action and improper conduct, and disqualified them both, together ■with the two-year-old filly Broken Doll, for 12 months from this date—June 5, 1928." Mr. Connolly and the jockey. P. O Hanlom, lodged an appeal with the Victoria Racing Club «,gainst their disqualification, but these were dismissed. According to a Melbourne cablegram, the horses owned by Mr. Connolly are to be submitted to auction to-day.
