LONDON POLICE FORCE.
SCOPE OF THE INQUIRY. WRITS FOR LIBEL ISSUED. Australian Press Association —United Service (Received .Tune 6. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON. June 5. In the House of Commons the Home Secretary, Sir William was asked whether the forthcoming inquiry into the methods of the police would include the methods of the provincial as well as of (he metropolitan police. Sir William said he thought the objects would be best attainable by means of an inquiry into the practice of the metropolitan police in conducting interrogations in ihe course of criminal investigations. Mr. W. Lunn, Labour member for Rothwell, Yorkshire, said it would bo better if fhe inquiry were general, to cover the whole country, rather than piecemeal. The Home Secretary said ho would consider the point in connection with the terms of reference of the commission. In reply to other questions he said tho police witnesses in the case against Sir Leo Chiozza Money, with the commissioner's permission, had issued writs for libel against a certain periodical. Pending the result he could not make a statement on the subject.
