In the hard courts tennis championships. in the finals of the women's doubles, Mrs. Watson and Miss Bennett defeated Madame Lafaurio and Mademoiselle Deve, 6—o, 6—2. In the mixed doubles, Cochefc and Miss Bennett defeated Thurneyssen and Madame Lafaurio, 6—4, 6 —4; F. T. Hunter and Miss Helen Wills defeated 0. G. Turnbull and Mrs. Lycett, 6—4, 6—4. In the semi-final Hunter and Miss Wills defeated Hawkes and Miss Boyd, 6—3, 7—5. In the men's doubles Borotra and Brugnon defeated Boyd and Robson, 6—2, 6—3, 6—2, in the third round; in the semi-finals Cochet and Dubuzelet defeated Gregory and Kingsley, 6—4, 6—l, 5—7, 7—5; Borotra and Brugnon defeated Landrv and Thurneyssen, 3—6, 6—2, 6—3. In the mixed doubles, in the semifinal, Cochet and Miss Bennett defeated Lacosto and Mademoiselle Bourgeois, 6—4, 6—l. SURPRISE AT SURBITON. DAVIS CUr PAIR, DEFEATED. There was a surprise in the finals of the men's doubles at the Surbiton tournament, when Spenco and Lycett defeated the Davis Cup pair, Crolo Rees and Earnes, after a hard-fought match, b y 7—5, 7—5, 7—5. NEW ZEALAND BOWLERS. CLOSE MATCH AT CAMBRIDGE. Australian Press Association—United Service LONDON, May 27. A team of Cambridge bowlers defeated the New Zealanders by 122 points to 115. The winning visiting skips were A. Carson. 29 to 18, and F. J. Hill, 26 to 12. The visitors found the green too heavy. GREAT CYCLE ROAD RACE. PARIS TO BRUSSELS EVENT. Australian Press Association—United Service (Received May 28, 7.5 p.m.) PARIS, May 27. The Paris to Brussels cycle road race, 230 miles, was won by Rousse, the Belgian champion. Frantz was second and Opperman third. Time, 13 hours 29 minutes. FOOT RACE ACROSS AMERICA. SCHOOLBOY WINS FIRST PRIZE. Australian and N.Z. Press Association. NEW YORK, May 27. A schoolboy, Andrew Payne, of Claremore, Oklahoma, on Friday, won the transcontinental foot race of 3450 miles, from Los Angeles to New York. He ran the distance in 573 h 4m 345, in 85 stages. He will receive £SOOO as the first prize.
