REPRESENTATIVE RUGBY
AUCKLAND TEAM SELECTED. THE SIDE TO PLAY WAIKATO. EXPERIMENTS BEING TRIED. Mr. V. R. Meredith, sole selector for the Auckland Rugby Union, has chosen the following team to represent Auckland against Waikato at Hamilton next Monday : Fullback: Paewai (Grafton). Threequarters: Macintosh (University), L. Hook (Ponsonby), Berridge (Ponsonby). Five-eighths: Badeley (Grammar Old Boys), Falwasser (Manukau). Halfback: McManus (Ponsonby). Wing-forward: B. Fletcher (City). Forwards: Palmer (Ponsonby), Finlayson (Grafton), Lock: Wanoa (Grafton). Supports: Batty (Grammar), Cathcart (Grammar). Back row: Knight (Grammar), Anderson (University). Emergencies: Jeffries (Marist), Minns (University), Fell (City). Practices will be held at North Shore to-morrow evening and on 'lhursday ingThe majority of the positions were foregone conclusions for the men selected. Keene (University) has been omitted on account of a leg injury which will keep him off the field for three or four weeks. It was thought in some quarters that tlindenach, the University and ex-Otago front-ranker, would gain a place, but the selector has preferred a player of laigei proportions. Berridge, who played fiveeighths last season in tho representative teams and in the All Black trials, has been moved out to wing-threequarter. fciis play as an inside back this season apparently has not impressed the selector. The team is more or less an experimental one, and cannot be regarded as the one likely to undertake the Southern tour later in the season.
