ATHLETICS FOR GIRLS.

Recently the Auckland Girls'. Athletie Association acquired the lease of the Remuera Recreation Ground, and . now its intention is to organise recreation in the way of summer and winter games for the largest possible number of girls. To forward this aim a meeting of all interested in furthering this project was held in the Y.W.C.A. -last evening and was presided over by Miss J. Begg..

The objects and aims of the association were outlined to the meeting, which was well attended, and Miss Begg stated that for the two years in which it had existed it had not become an incorporated body. Now, however, it had been decided to become incorporated and Miss Melville had accepted the position of hon. legal adviser. By securing the l lease of the Remuera Recreation Ground, it was hoped to provide playing areas ,for anything from 1000 to 2000 girls during the winter.

A committee was act up to g& into tha question of ways and means fpr raising money for neces§pry equipment and improvements to the grounds and yarious plans were discussed in this connection, one that met with much approval being that of a copper trail. Jn estimating the possibilities' that lay before them of raising money an .optimistic spirit showed itself and plans were outlined for the athletic gapes for both winter and summer. Amongst k the aims of the Auckland Girls' ■ Athletic Association is one for securing , adequate medical examination and medical . follow-up advice as a basis for participation' in physical activities. It also aims 'at avoiding any sort of countenance of the sacrifice of the individual's health for the sake of her participation in athletic competition. The association also aims at the protection of girl athletes from exploitation for the enjoyment of the spectator or the athletic reputation or commercial advantage of any institute or organisation.
