POLICE FOR SAMOA.

SAILING THIS MORNING." EQUIPPING THE TUTANEKAI. BALANCE OF STORES BY TOFUAThe recently-recruited Samoan military police will sail for. Apia by the lutanekai this morning. The force is formed of 66 men and 10 officers, and were carefully chosen by the superintendents of police in the various metropolitan areas in the Dominion a fortnight, ago. Fit in every respect, the men comprise a company which is a credit to Now Zealand manhood. From early yesterday morning until late last evening the 40 members of the crew of the Tutanakai, under Captain J. Bp!' lons, worked untiringly, loading the holds with coal and equipment for the voyage. Tents, pans, pots, blankets, clothing and food were stored away until presently it was found the Tutanekai could hold no more. Then it was decided that the remaining portion of the cargo would have to be carried by the Tofua. Special arrangements have been made for the adequate accommodation of the police. Scores of extra sheets have been spread over new bunks and deck seats have been placed about in order that the men may the better enjoy promised sunHooded days. Cleanliness is everywhere in evidence. From the polished brass taps and the gleaming silvered and bronzed pipes and tanks to the freshpainted funnel and the white, scrubbed deck, all is (spotless. Every effort has been made to make the recruits comfortable. While not sprawled in the sun in the daytinje they will read, and at night there will be musio ani old favourite songs. Then at the end of seven-and-a-half days of hfe at sea they will tramp ashore in Samoa and duty will commence that night in their barracks. Captain Bollons expects to make Apia by next Saturday afternoon, providing the weather is favourable.
