QUAKERS AND WAR SERVICE.
Sir,—ln a sermon on (he Presbyterian Church and War, the Rev. D. D. Scott, of Onehunga, referred to the attitude of the noble sect of Quakers toward righteous war. During the recent war the Quakers did all in their power to uphold the cause of those who fought in defence of right. The older men spent vast sums of money in the erection and upkeep of military hospitals, in equipping fleets of field ambulances, etc.- The younger Quakers enlisted •in the army as noncombatants. They wore khaki, and though they carried no arms they were to be found where danger was greatest, acting as stretcher bearers, hospital orderlies and ambulance drivers. Many were killed; very many wounded.
