Sir,—l sco in a uolico of an exhibition of etchings reference to the poor progress rnado in' New Zealand in spito of tha growing interest of the buying public. Thero is no such thing in Auckland as a buying public. it is as extinct as the nioa. There are a few very generous patrons who year after year buy our work, but they are not the public, they are old friends of the artists, who have stood by and encouraged them. Any artist will toll you Lhev sell four times as many of their pictures in Wellington and Cliristcburch and even Dunedin as they do in Auckland, Why ? Can anyone sav why ? One Who Sends South.
