CHRISTIAN CONVENTION.
The eighth annual Christian convention at Ngaruawahia opened on Thursday, nearly 500 attending. Most of the campers are from Auckland, but towns separated as far as Okaihau in the north and Wellington in the south are represented. There are also several representatives from the South Island. By the courtesy of the Ngaruawahia School Committee the ladies are accommodated in the Ngaruawahia School, and the Ngaruawahia Borough Council placed the Town Hall at the disposal of the ladies for committee meetings and catering. The men are tinder canvas, the camp site being a most picturesque one at the junction of the Waikato and Waipa rivers. The speakers included the Rev. It. Sale-Harrison, of Sydney, Mr. Maitland Kirwin, of London, secretary of the British Svrian Mission, and Dr. W. H. Pettifc, of Auckland. The campers enjoyed an excursion np the Waikato River on Saturday. A large gathering of residents of Ngaruawahia and the surrounding districts is expected today, visitors' day.
