WALSH ISLAND WORKS.

DEPUTATION TO PREMIER. NEW OFFER TO THE MEN. (Received March 15, 8.15 p.m.) A.. 3tid N.Z. SYDNEY, March 15. A deputation comprising Labour members of Parliament asked the Premier, Mr. T. R. Bavin, to reconsider his decision to close the Walsh Island works and convene a conference of both parties to the dispute about the bonus system. The deputation emphasised the serious effect tho closing of the works would have both on Newcastle and on the surrounding district. Later the Cabinet considered the request. It decided that the works should be reopened on Monday only if the men agree in the meantime to return to work under the bonus system. The Government will then be willing to hear any requests or proposals the men may make, but unless the men first agree to return the works will be closed on Friday.
